Valentine Note Challenge Update

My beginning students are halfway through the monthly Valentine note challenge, and they are all loving it! This week, every student earned more hearts than the last, and several students came into their lessons asking when they were going to play the "note game"!

Here's a look at our chart so far:

As you can see, it's going to be a close race! I'm really excited about how seriously all my beginner students (even those who aren't my best practicers) are taking the challenge.

Have you been using any special themed incentives for the month of February? How's it going so far?

  1. We have been doing your Valentine Note Challenge and the students love trying to beat each other. It is really improving their note reading.

I hope to continue this next month with Susan Paradis's shamrock grand staff and start introducing ledger line notes a little at a time.

Thanks for your great games. Joanne

  2. This looks neat! I've been doing my Valentine matching game each week, and they are loving it. I really like seasonal games - they help keep things fresh for the students (and the teacher!) :)

  3. Thanks for your comments!

Joanne, I love your idea. I'm going to be doing a different contest next month drilling intervals for my beginners...I'll be sharing more about that at the end of the month.

Leah, I'm glad your note match game is such a success as well. It is true that seasonal games can make even the most boring drills seem fun and exciting! My students show up each week eager to try and beat their past week's score...and to check in and see who's in the lead! Love it! :)
