Spring Recital Success!

My studio recital was this past Friday evening, and it went off beautifully! I was so proud of all my students and the work they had put in over the past term.

As always, I played (no pun intended ;) ) an active role in the recital by accompanying each student on at least one of their two pieces, so I asked my mom to snap a few shots for me:

Most of her pictures ended up being the back of students as they played...

and so on and so on...you get the idea! :)

I still have one week of lessons before the end of the term, but this week is always less stressful as we do a wrap up/evaluation/preparation for the next term.

How many of you still have lessons left to teach for the spring term? Do you take time off between spring and summer terms? Will you be teaching at all this summer?

  2. Looks like fun! This year I'm taking the whole summer off- June, July, and August. It's the most I've ever taken, but last year I tried to go into summer, and June was a write-off. Kids were so excited about school coming to an end that they were basically on another planet. :) This year I'm stopping at the end of May while they are still working hard...maybe it's a bit of psychology, but I'm hoping it will keep them excited to start back in the fall...so far it's working and they are giving me great ideas for our goals and incentives next year.

    1. Leah- I hope you'll enjoy your summer break! And I'll definitely be interested to hear more about how your experiment works out :)

I agree that kids need a break once in a while. I'll have to post about my summer lesson plan. It's worked really well for me over the past years and I don't think my students feel extra pressure. I always feel like they lose too much (I have mostly younger students in my studio) if they take the whole summer off.

  3. Your Recital sounded wonderful. Our schools are still in session until the third week of June. My summer schedule will start in July and go through mid-August when I will take a few weeks off. I am looking for a fun summer incentive like your ice-cream cone practice incentive from last year. Any ideas?

    1. BusyB, you're in luck! I had an inspiration last week and will be sharing soon about my summer practice incentive :)

I'm really excited about it and hope it will keep my students motivated over the summer months!
